Ntshumayelo handed life-line by SuperSport United

Cape Town - SuperSport United Chief Executive Officer Stan Matthews says former Orlando Pirates midfielder Thandani Ntshumayelo may be offered a contract if he can prove his fitness.

Ntshumayelo spent a few months last season at Baroka but made just one brief appearance as he continues to battle back to full fitness and peak conditioning.

The player's career earlier went off the rails following a drug ban for using cocaine, and, since his sentence was revoked, he has been trying to get back into professional football.

Matthews told KickOff: "He's just training with the club. Obviously, as a former player of ours and an academy graduate, he's landed on some hard times and we've agreed [to let him pick himself up].

"Look, obviously, if he shows something then we could look at it [possibly signing him], but we didn't agree to him training with us for that reason.

"We just said, 'Come and get fit at the club and see what you can do.' If he does well, why not? I need cover for Dean [Furman] and he would tick that box.

"But at the moment, he's far from being ready. It would be something maybe for January."

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
