Cape Town - Veteran defender Thabo Nthethe has closed an illustrious chapter at Mamelodi Sundowns after signing for Chippa United.
The Bafana Bafana-capped defender has been with Sundowns for five years after joining from Bloemfontein Celtic and has won three league titles, the CAF Champions League, the Nedbank Cup and two Telkom Knockout winners' medals.
But having appeared in 29 league games in the 2015/ 16 season, Nthethe played 14 games in 2016/ 17, and only a single league match last season as he fell behind Ricardo Nascimento, Bangaly Soumahoro and Motjeka Madisha in the pecking order.
He'll now be looking to invigorate his career at Eastern Cape-based side Chippa, whose spokesperson Lukhanyo Mzizi confirmed the signing on Monday night.
"We have signed Thabo Nthethe from Sundowns. He's our player now. He's very excited to be coming to Port Elizabeth," Mzizi told SABC.
The 33-year-old central defender has reportedly penned a one-year deal with an option to renew for another year.
Chippa have also reportedly signed Gift Motupa from Orlando Pirates as well as Boikanyo Komane from Royal Eagles, and Cape Town All Stars pair Nation Ndlovu and Lucky Setelele.
