Cape Town - Orlando Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza says he has no mandate for coach Milutin Sredojevic because football is an unpredictable game.
Sredojevic is entering his third year in charge of the Sea Robbers and is yet to win a trophy, despite going close last season.
Pirates finished runners-up to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Absa Premiership and were losing finalists in the Telkom Knockout.
They also went out in the group stages of the CAF Champions League.
Nonetheless, the Iron Duke says that there are no expectations on Serbian mentor in the upcoming 2019/20 season.
He told reporters: "No, in football, you can't expect anything. Football is a game of luck on the day working.
"I mean, we know we've got teams internationally that are buying players every season, but it's not a guarantee of success. Football has so many variables.
"So, you can only hope, you can only do the best you can to prepare your team and give it a chance to be able to bring you the results that you wish and hope for.
"But if you're going predict and be confident, then you're going to get a heart attack.
"So, I'm protecting myself. I want to live a bit longer, because football, the [former coach Kgoloko Thobejane] Baroka coach said, it can kill you!"
