Nigerian defender cleared to make SuperSport debut

Cape Town - Nigeria international defender Azubuike Egwuekwe is in line to make his official SuperSport United debut this weekend after receiving his work permit.

The 28-year-old could potentially feature for Eric Tinkler's side in the MTN8 second-leg semi-final clash against Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium this Saturday.

The first leg in Pretoria ended 1-1.

Egwuekwe featured in a friendly game for Matsatsantsa on the weekend, a 2-1 win over the Nedbank Ke Yona team in Tembisa.

The 2013 AFCON winner is now hopeful of making his senior debut, although he'll be competing with the likes of Clayton Daniels, Morgan Gould and Tefu Mashamaite for a starting berth in KZN,

"My papers are now okay," he told KickOff.

"I am very excited to join a big team like SuperSport United and am looking forward to giving my best for the club," said the Super Eagles defender, who joined SuperSport from Finnish side KuPS.
