Cape Town - Bidvest Wits regained their place at the top of the Premiership standings with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Golden Arrows at the Bidvest Stadium on Tuesday night.
Gabadinho Mhango opened the scoring from the penalty spot on 21 minutes ahead of a quick-fire Mogakolodi Ngele brace to send the Clever Boys two points clear of closest title rivals Cape Town City.
Ngele gave Nkosingiphile Gumede no chance with a long-range shot on 65 minutes that bulleted into the back of the net without the ‘keeper moving. Ngele was once again at the forefront of things as he kept his composure to steer home a good ball from Mhango from the left hand side for his second goal of the game.
Meanwhile, coach Gavin Hunt believes that his charges put in a great shift and that in due time Ngele will be rewarded for his stunning goal.
“There’s no easy game, especially when it comes to this time of the season. We had to really work hard for this tonight,” he said.
“I thought we were excellent in the first half. Shape was good, we played well and created three unbelievable chances. Gaba (Mhango) had an unbelievable chance in the first half but he kept working.
“And we scored a goal... not of the month... well, we’ll never win Goal of the Month, you know that... so, Goal of the Year, unbelievable goal.”
As the league heats up Wits will travel to the Mother City to face Cape Town City in a top of the table clash on Tuesday, April 19.
Kick off is at 19:30.
