'Ndoro didn't do enough at Highlands Park'

Highlands Park have explained their decision to cancel the contract of Zimbabwean striker Tendai Ndoro.

The former Chicken Inn, Cape Town City and Orlando Pirates attacker was released by the Premier League club on Wednesday.

He had struggled for game-time under head coach Owen Da Gama this season, with Lions of the North directors Brad Kaftel revealing his form this season wasn't enough for the club to keep him on.

Ndoro, who took a pay cut to remain with Highlands as the coronavirus brought a halt to league action, managed five goals since joining the club last season.

Kaftel told KickOff: "Look, he's a quality player. He scored that vital goal for us against Bloemfontein Celtic late last season to get us those points but he hasn't done much this season.

"The coach couldn't play him, so if he's not performing for us, it's better that he moves on."

Kaftel added: "He's a quality player and I'm sure he will find another club. I think he did well for us last season, but this season really he hasn't done much, I think he scored one or two goals.

"Yes, it's the coach who has to pick him but I think the player has to prove to the coach that he has to be in the starting eleven. But he hasn't done that."
