Myeni: I can still compete at PSL level

Former Orlando Pirates star Sifiso Myeni believes he still has what it takes to compete with the best in the Premier Soccer League.

The 31-year-old has spent the last five months at National First Division side TS Sporting, but he was released this week and is eager to find a new home in the PSL.

"I am still capable of playing and I love football. There are players my age, others older than me who are still doing well in the PSL," Myeni told Daily Sun.

"Coach Kenny Ndlazi made me aware that South Africa has a norm that when players reach 30, they are regarded as old.

"Surprise Moriri won the PSL Player of the Season (2005/06 campaign) when he was way over 30. Other players reached their peak at that age. (Former Kaizer Chiefs duo) Siphiwe Tshabalala and Yeye (Reneilwe Letsholonyane) are still playing."

Asked about TS Sporting's decision to release him this week, along with seven other players, Myeni said he fully understood the club's reasoning and wished them all the best moving forward.

"The general manager told me they can't afford to pay my salary going forward. I was not surprised considering what we are facing (lockdown) as a country, and this was bound to happen," Myeni said.

"The club is going through financial difficulties at the moment and I knew there will be job losses since the season has stopped. But they paid me well and we never had salary issues."
