Arrows edge United in KZN derby

Cape Town - Golden Arrows beat Maritzburg United 1-0 in the Premiership on Saturday night at the Princess Magogo stadium to claim honours in the KZN derby.

Knox Mutizwa scored the only goal of the game just before half-time to secure a valuable win for the hosts.

Roger De Sa's side created the first chance of the game in the 28th minute, Evans Rusike letting fly with a volley from just outside the area that went over the bar.

Abafana Bes'thende got the breakthrough two minutes before the break. A set-piece from Nduduzo Sibiya was well finished off by Mutizwa at the far post.

The Team of Choice came out a different team in the second half, though. Siphesilhle Ndlovu had a long-range effort in the 49th minute after he was picked out by Rusike, but his strike flew well over the bar.

The visitors came within inches of an equaliser 14 minutes from time. The lively Rusike was once again in the thick of things after Kurt Lentjies found him in the box only for the Zimbabwean to slice his shot wide.

The two teams will meet again when they clash in the Nedbank Cup next weekend.
