Musonda brace powers Leopards past SuperSport

Thohoyandou - A clinical brace from Mwape Musonda ensured Black Leopards secured an impressive 2-0 win in Saturday's Absa Premiership encounter against SuperSport United.

The home team created the first opening as Musonda raced on to a through ball before Ronwen Williams came off his line to make the save.

The chances were few and far between throughout although with around 10 minutes remaining Tshwarelo Bereng found space in the area, though his strike went over the bar with Williams appearing helpless.

SuperSport created virtually nothing in the first stanza and it was no surprise that striker Bradley Grobler was brought on in the second period to replace Thabo Mnyamane.

Nonetheless, Lidoda Duvha made their dominance count in the 56th minute as Grant Kekana was adjudged to have handled inside the penalty area.

Musonda showed composure to step up and convert beyond Williams in goal.

United were not at the races though they did come close to an equaliser as substitute Grobler glanced an effort narrowly wide of the target.

Yet, they came close to a leveller when Aubrey Modiba fired in a powerful free-kick which King Ndlovu did outstandingly to save.

With that said, Musonda was the hero later on in the contest as he latched on to Tshwarelo Bereng's through ball before finishing expertly at the near post.

The victory ensures that coach Dylan Kerr continues his fine start to life in Thohoyandou.
