Murray hoping for prolific debut season

Cape Town - Wits newboy Simon Murray has made a good start to life in the Absa Premiership and he is hoping to take the many chances that come his way this season.

The Scottish striker decided on a new adventure during the off-season when he moved to South Africa after spending the first seven years of his career in his homeland.

Murray opened his account for his new club in the 3-0 win over AmaZulu on August 29 and scored a match-winning brace against Cape Town City in his first start earlier this month.

The 26-year-old admits he is still acclimatising to the SA heat, having come from a much cooler Scotland, but he's looking to thrive in a league where goalscoring opportunities are more frequent than back home.

"I would say it's totally different but, at the end of the day, football is still football. The main thing is to win games," the former Hibernian hitman said.

"But the style of play is obviously different. They like to pass it here and obviously in Scotland it's not 30 degrees [Celsius], so it's easier to run there because you don't run out of energy quickly.

"So, it's maybe more of a back and forth game in Scotland, where it's more physical guys and defenders, but here they like to pass it and stuff.

"And, you know, you get a lot of opportunities here to score goals, so hopefully I could [get my tally up a bit more]."
