Cape Town - Orlando Pirates midfielder Nyasha Munetsi is hoping the club will end its five-year trophy doubt by winning the MTN8 at the start of the upcoming season.

The early rounds of MTN8 serve as somewhat of a curtain-raiser to the Premiership season.

The competition boasts a hefty prize pool and involves only the teams that finished in the top eight positions of the previous season's Premiership standings.

This all makes it a prestigious and sought-after trophy for teams to win.

The Bucs have not won the competition since 2011 having most recently lost the 2014 final to arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs and Munetsi is hoping this year's competition will mark a significant change in the Sea Robbers fortunes.

"We have the MTN8 on offer. That will be our first target. We have to get silverware for the club. It’s been a lot of years without a trophy and we have to end that. As much as we are building for the future but we want to achieve success now. Pirates is a big team," he said, according to IOL.

They came close to winning two trophies last season but ultimately fell short both times, finishing second in the Premiership and losing out to Baroka FC in the final of the Telkom Knockout.

"It was a huge setback for us to lose the league and the Telkom Knockout. We are hopeful that next season we will bounce back strong," he added.
