Cape Town - Chippa Mpengesi says the appointment of Duran Francis as new head coach was a natural choice as he 'has been part of the club development'.
Francis was announced as the new boss of the Chilli Boys on Tuesday after Clinton Larsen was given the sack on Monday.
Francis, a local Port Elizabeth boy who played for Ajax Cape Town, Santos and captained Bay United, was formerly coach of Chippa's ABC Motsepe League side Peacemakers.
After making his 28th coaching change in ten years, Mpengesi said it was common sense to promote Francis from the academy structures.
"Duran Francis has been part of the club development. His appointment is just continuity as he understands the culture of the club and the way the club is operating. He is also a local boy," Mpengesi tells KickOff.com.
"It feels good when we are promoting our own local talent. We also did it with Daine Klate. It also feels good to see these young coaches like Benni McCarthy, Fadlu Davids and Rhulani Mokwena getting these kinds of opportunities.
"I always believe in giving people opportunities. I mean we have done it with Roger Sikhakhane, Tebogo Moloi and Dan Malesela."
