Cape Town - Chippa United boss Chippa Mpengesi is holding out hope that midfielder Thabo Rakhale will not be leaving despite him having yet to sign a new contract at the club.
Rakhale's contract expires in June and it looks as if he will leave on a free transfer at the end of the season, unless the Chilli Boys manage to pull a deal out of the fire.
"We are busy talking to extend it. He has shown interest in staying," Mpengesi told KickOff.
"He also understands that it was this club Chippa United who revived his career that was dying. He is mindful of the mistakes that other players commit to think the grass is always greener on the other side.
"We are busy talking to his agent Mandla [Mthembu] and we are hoping to extend his stay for another two years."
Rakhale will come up against his former club Orlando Pirates in Chippa's next league match at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday.
Kick-off is at 15:30.
