Motshwari on Soweto derby: 'It was a very tactical game'

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates player Ben Motshwari revealed the team was not happy with their point against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.

The Soweto giants met at FNB Stadium, where they played out to a 1-1 draw. The point puts Pirates one point behind Mamelodi Sundowns in second on the Premier Soccer League table.

Motshwari lamented the missed chances in the first half, where the Bucs failed to find the back of the net.

"It was a very tactical game, inasmuch as we wanted to win and chase the pack at the top, but it was difficult, very tactical," the 27-year-old told SuperSport TV.

"They played with five at the back and two wing-backs, it was difficult for us to exploit spaces on the sides because they were always overloading one side.

"It was a bit of a challenge. But other than that, it was a great game, tough. [In] the first half we created so many chances, we should have buried them, even myself I should have scored but it was unfortunate.

"We had to chase the game and managed to score. We’re not happy or satisfied with a point but we’ll take it."

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
