Motaung remains optimistic after 'failed' season

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung has admitted that the club failed to live up to expectations in 2016/17, and that next season improvement is needed.

Tshabalala named Chiefs Player of the Season

Speaking at Amakhosi's awards ceremony on Thursday, Motaung made his feelings clear that not winning silverware is unacceptable. It is the second season in a row under coach Steve Komphela that no trophies have been brought back to Naturena.

"It is important for the club to review and take note of some of the highlights of the season and show appreciation to all involved in continuing to contribute to the rich history of this institution," the 72-year-old said.

"It is no secret we were found wanting when it mattered most during the season and the team failed to fulfill our desires and expectations.

"But learning the key lessons is always important after disappointing results because they will help us to pave the path for success next season."
