Motaung opens up about potential January signings

Cape Town – Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung believes that Giovanni Solinas inherited a much better team than that of Steve Komphela.

Following the sacking of Komphela in April 2018, the club brought the likes of Khama Billiat and Lebogang Manyama to the Naturena before announcing Solinas as the new head coach.

Six months later, Chiefs showed Solinas the door as he struggled to get the best of the Glamour Boys and entrusted Ernst Middendorp with a second stint as head coach.

Now under Middendorp's tutelage, the club’s chairman believes that no further additions need to be made in January.

“As far as acquisitions are concerned, when we brought in Solinas, we had assembled a very good squad, much better than the one Steve Komphela had to work with,” he said as quoted by the club’s website.

“We therefore hope that, once the team stabilises under the new technical team, we will get results.

“However, as always, working with a squad of players is work in progress – it’s about constantly making tweaks here and there.”

Meanwhile, Amakhosi are set to face title rivals Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday, January 5 at the FNB Stadium as the Absa Premiership resumes.
