Orlando Pirates chairperson Irvin Khoza has praised the life of the late Mable Khumalo following her passing on Tuesday.
Mother to Amakhosi legend Doctor Khumalo, and wife of the late Chiefs founding member, Eliakim 'Pro' Khumalo, Motaung said it was difficult to lose such an important person during a testing time for South Africa.
The country is currently a week into a 21-day lockdown with all sporting activities suspended.
In a club statement, Khoza wrote: "One of South Africa's football families have lost their matriarch.
"Mable Khumalo, mother of Doctor Khumalo, has departed. Our hearts and prayers are with the Khumalo family. We received the sad news of the passing of your dear mother Mabel Khumalo at this difficult time when our nation and the world are in lockdown.
"We are grateful to Ausi Mable for her role besides the legendary late Eliakim 'Pro' Khumalo for nurturing an era defining talent, Doctor Khumalo.
"May her soul rest peacefully."
Chiefs chairperson Kaizer Motaung also paid tribute by saying: "She was a wonderful person who played her supportive role in the background.
"I knew her in the late 60s when 'Pro' was playing for Moroka Swallows before joining us to form Kaizer Chiefs in 1970.
"And, it is known that her son Doctor Khumalo grew up at Kaizer Chiefs and developed to be a household name in International football.
"We can only be grateful of the contribution that Mme Mable made to Kaizer Chiefs and football in general."
