Johannesburg - Ahead of the much anticipated 2016/17 Absa Premiership season, Kaizer Chiefs chairperson Kaizer Motaung said he is anticipating a more competitive campaign.
The 71-year-old says that all sixteen teams have had plenty of time on their hands to prepare for a domestic season.
Top flight football will resume on Tuesday, August 23 with the Amakhosi facing Bidvest Wits at the Bidvest Stadium.
Motaung hints that there are no easy games anymore in the Premier Soccer League and the first league round would be the toughest this season compared to the previous years.
“Every football season is different and we are all aware of that,” said Motaung.
“As far as I can see now, the season ahead is going to be very competitive and tough.
“It will be very tough because all teams had enough time to prepare for this campaign and we had an ample of time because of the Olympic Games as well.
“So therefore, everyone is ready to be on the starting blocks to fight and this would be the first time were the first round will be so fiercely competitive.
“Maybe in the second round things might tape down a little bit but the beginning will be incredible.”
