Motaung: Chiefs definitely going to bolster squad

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has hinted that the club will sign new players ahead of 2018/19, though the additions won't be wholesale.

Chiefs have endured a lean time over the last three seasons in terms of winning trophies, and in the previous campaign coach Steve Komphela departed the club mainly for that reason.

The Glamour Boys are yet to appoint a new manager, however, recent reports suggests the side's shortlist has been narrowed down to six individuals.

Nonetheless, Motaung admitted that some new personnel would be necessary although Amakhosi's management would not completely overhaul the current squad.

He told Kickoff: "Fortunately we know our challenges [within the squad]. The coaches we’re engaging with, some of them have done their research.

"We give feedback in our interviews on what the challenges are and what possibilities are there. Input will always be there [from the coach], whichever way.

"Obviously, coaches do their research and know where we lack and they give input when we sign, to say this is also what they feel is right.

"But we know our challenge as a club. We have a technical committee that understands the needs analysis.

"We’ve also bolstered the team in January (with Leonardo Castro, Siphelele Ntshangase and Kabelo Mahlasela), so it depends on which parts of the team we’ll be adding onto and from which positions.

"We’re not going to change 15-20 players like we’re building a new team. It will create challenges for the new coach and for adaptation [amongst the players].

"We are definitely going into the market to bolster the team, but the core of the team will still be there. How many? It depends. On this journey you never say, ‘I want two players’.

"Sometimes it exceeds because of what you see [in the market]. There’s now COSAFA, and there are other countries where there are tournaments and we’ve been looking.

"You might find that you get an exceptional player that is not what you have, and you take him."
