Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs chairperson Kaizer Motaung has congratulated Itumeleng Khune on being nominated for the 2016 CAF Player of the Year based in Africa award.
Mamelodi Sundowns duo, Hlompho Kekana and Keagan Dolly, have also been nominated for the prestigious award alongside 'Spiderkid'.
Motaung, 72, extended his praises to the hard working goalkeeper and believes that he fully deserves his recognition.
'Chincha Guluva' also insisted that Khune’s performance for the national team against Burkina Faso last month was another backing for the Ventersdorp born shot stopper’s nomination.
"First and foremost, I must take this opportunity to congratulate him [Khune], he is fully deserved of that honour," said Motaung.
"If you look at our [Bafana Bafana] game against Burkina Faso, you will realise that his performance kept us in the game.
"In fact, we almost won that game with his heroics and had it not been for him, the results could have been very different."
PSL stars included on the list of nominees include Zimbabwean international, Khama Billiat and Uganda's Dennis Onyango following their exploits in the recent CAF Champions League triumph with Mamelodi Sundowns.
The CAF 2016 Awards Gala will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2017, in Nigeria.
