Mosimane: We're losing focus at critical times

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane admits he is seeing a disturbing trend from his team in recent games as they prepare to kick off the new Absa Premiership season.

The defending league champions entertain Kaizer Chiefs at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday afternoon in the opening match of the 2018/19 campaign.

Sundowns have already been involved in competitive action during the off-season after facing Togo-Port home and away in the CAF Champions League this month.

Mosimane's side beat the Togolese champions 2-1 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Friday, having triumphed over Amakhosi by the same scoreline in the Shell Helix Ultra Cup a week prior.

But the 54-year-old is concerned that the Brazilians managed to concede both goals in the dying minutes of those two encounters, and believes it comes down to switching off at a crucial stage.

"When we played against Horoya in the early stages of the Champions League, we were winning 2-1, and they scored in the last six minutes," he noted.

"Against Chiefs and Togo-Port, there were few minutes left in the game, and we conceded. This shows that we lose concentration at critical times."

Mosimane is looking to address the issue by improving their game management, as Downs displayed in the home leg against Togo-Port when they took the foot off the gas after going 2-0 up.

"We were managing the game because that is important," he added. "You cannot just attack and attack‚ you have to control the game and not be naive because you will be caught on the break."
