Mosimane praises Sundowns character in Arrows win

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says his side showed character to clinch a 1-0 win over Golden Arrows on a wet Wednesday evening in Durban.

Lebohang Maboe netted the only goal of the match at the Princess Magogo Stadium, as the Brazilians returned to winning ways to end a six match winless run in all competitions.

Mosimane admitted that his side were not at their best on the night, but was happy to walk away with the three points.

"Difficult game under those conditions, the wind was strong. We showed character, we survived a bit. We don't have to play pretty football sometimes to win. We earned it, we wanted it," Mosimane told Supersport.

"Four goals in two games and four points, it's good. Three clean sheets out of five games, it's not bad, it can get better, but it's ok. You cannot have everything, one step at the time, we survived, and we earned it.

"The players showed character today and in the last game, we scored three goals and they never gave up. They also showed character in that game because we had to fight for it in the end with 'Vila' (Sibusiso Vilakazi) scoring late.

"I'm happy the new boys are starting to score. Lebo (Maboe) scored today, Toni Silva has scored and Phaka (Phakamani Mahlambi) has also scored. Its promising, the new ones are getting there. It's not as rosy as we want it, we all know, but you can still win when you don't have pretty football sometimes."

Sundowns next face the high-flying Bloemfontein Celtic in an Absa Premiership clash on October 3 at the Dr. Petrus Molemela Stadium.

Kick-off is at 19:30.
