Cape Town - Pitso Mosimane has claimed that keeping Percy Tau would be bad for Mamelodi Sundowns' recruitment, as players with overseas ambitions would be wary of them.
Amid reports that Brighton and Hove Albion are interested in Tau's signature, Mosimane has confirmed that Masandawana are negotiating the 24-year-old striker's exit.
"Sundowns wants Percy to leave, I think you know everything. Negotiations are ongoing - even today, and myself and management have all agreed that Percy must go," Mosimane told KickOff.
"Percy knows that we have agreed that he should go, because we'd love to see our player in the Premier League. I don't think anyone who is sober in their mind would think Sundowns doesn't want Percy to go.
"I mean, really guys, how's that possible? How can we do that to South Africa? How can we do that ... it won't be good for our recruitment either. Players will say, 'No, if we go to Sundowns, we won't go overseas'."
Tau picked up the 2017/18 Footballer of the season and Absa Premiership Player's Player of the Season awards, having finished as joint Premiership top scorer alongside Rodney Ramagalela with 11 goals.
South African football fans were sent into a frenzy by reports that he had skipped Sundowns' pre-season camp in Rustenburg, but the nation now holds its breath as negotiations continue.
