Mosimane: I apologised to Vilakazi

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane admits he apologised to Sibusiso Vilakazi after leaving him on the bench for the entire Premiership clash against Platinum Stars.

During the 2-1 victory over Dikwena, Mosimane instructed the playmaker to warm up to replace Themba Zwane, but at the last minute opted for Yannick Zakri.

"I spoke to him and I apologised to him. I told him that he would play (against Platinum Stars), honestly speaking I told him," Mosimane told the SowetanLIVE website.

"So I only had one sub left and you could see that I needed to play on a break because there was space behind (in Stars' defence).

"So who are you going to put in? Zakri, who's got speed or Vila, who would control the ball? I didn't need to control the ball because I wanted to score.

"I apologised to Vila, but I think he will play against (Bidvest) Wits on Saturday."

Since joining the Brazilians from the Bidvest Wits in the off-season, Vilakazi has scored three goals in nine league outings.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
