Mosimane clarifies Bafana comments

Johannesburg - Pitso Mosimane has sent a message to Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba, clarifying comments he made suggesting how he feels Mamelodi Sundowns players should be used in the national team.

Mosimane recently commented that Sundowns players in the national team should be given more rest because they faced an added workload in the CAF Champions League.

The Brazilians are in the semi-finals of the competition following a taxing series of matches that took place in the off-season period. As a result, many in the Downs squad are yet to take a proper break since the 2015/16 season ended.

Nonetheless, Mosimane has made it clear that he wants to see his players called up. However, it is his wish that they are managed carefully in the national team set-up.

He told the club's official website: "My statement was never for Bra Shakes (Mashaba) not to use Sundowns players, but rather about player and load management."

The 52-year-old added: "Currently Sundowns is in two crucial semi-finals; CAF Champions League and MTN 8, while the Absa Premiership is also there in the mix.

"We have been going non-stop since the league last year and we are very careful with regards to preserving our players."
