Cape Town - New Cape Town City signing Tashreeq Morris is relishing the opportunity to work under 'a legend in South African soccer' in coach Benni McCarthy.
The Citizens have signed Morris on a three-year deal shortly after having acquired the services of another former Ajax Cape Town academy player in Abubaker Mobara as they look to bolster the squad ahead of the 2019/2020 season.
Morris was recently released by Ajax after making over 100 appearances for them in both the PSL and NFD and admits he is flattered that McCarthy sought his services."It feels really good to back in the top-flight and I cant wait to get started," Morris told KickOff.com.
"I’m especially excited, honoured and humbled about the fact that I will be coached by a legend in South African soccer in coach Benni.
"I’m ready to learn from whatever he has to offer. I want to get all the experience and knowledge to help me become a better striker.
"I have no doubt that I’m at the right club as they have a lot of experienced and diverse players."
The 25-year-old is well aware that it will not be easy breaking in to the Cityzens' first-team as competition for places is stiff.
"This will help to keep me on my toes and not become complacent," he points out.
"I know City has quality and experienced players like Kermit Erasmus and also a guy like Chris David who played in the English Premier League. So it won’t be easy but like I said, I’m ready to work hard and learn more skills from coach Benni and my new teammates."
