Morena's cast is removed as ankle recovery progresses

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Thapelo Morena has made progress in his recovery from an ankle injury as his cast was removed on Monday.

Morena suffered the freak injury during the Nedbank Cup last-32 clash with SuperSport United in February, when his ankle was dislocated on a slippery pitch at Loftus Versfeld after getting trapped under a boot.

Initial assessments predicted that the 26-year-old could be sidelined for up to six months, but he has made a significant stride in his recovery with his cast being replaced by a moon boot.

"Some good news Masandawana‚ Thapelo is making great progress in his recovery with his cast coming off today and being replaced with a moon boot‚" Sundowns announced on Twitter.

The Masandawana star underwent surgery on the ankle and had a few screws inserted in his foot in an attempt to help stabilise the damaged ligaments.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
