Cape Town - Former Mamelodi Sundowns star Zane Moosa has urged the club to keep hold of utility player Mzikayise Mashaba beyond the end of this season.
The 28-year-old has featured sparingly this season despite the departure of Keagan Dolly to Ligue 1 side Montpellier and with his contract due to be up in two months, Moosa has come out saying that the club need to begin negotiating a new deal.
While the Platinum Stars youth product is held in high regard by manager Pitso Mosimane due to his speed, technical ability and versatility, there'e been reports linking him away from the Champions of Africa.
Despite injuries and lack of fitness has restricting the former Bidvest Wits man to just 10 league appearances, Moosa feels his recent run in the first-team has proven he is an adequate squad player.
"He hadn't really hit full stride before. He's started recently, but I don't think it's changed the overall picture," he told Soccer Laduma website.
"In the last few games, he's had some time on the pitch and started to perform. But things can change very quickly, so it's not a given that he's always going to put in those kind of performances.
"If he's happy at the club and the club's happy with his performances, then they should do their best to keep him."
Sundowns are in the running to retain the Absa Premiership title following their victory over Orlando Pirates on Sunday afternoon.
The Brazilians next face Baroka FC on Wednesday while fellow title chasers Cape Town City and Bidvest Wits take on SuperSport United and Free State Stars respectively.
