Monare: Every game is a cup final for Maritzburg

Cape Town - Bidvest Wits midfielder Thabang Monare believes Maritzburg United will be a tough nut to crack ahead of Friday's Absa Premiership clash.

The Team of Choice have endured an awful season and have replaced two coaches up to now in Fadlu Davids and Muhsin Ertugral. Eric Tinkler is the new man in charge.

It appears that United face a stiff test against the log leaders at Bidvest Stadium on Friday.

Monare told Kickoff: "Preparations for the game are normal, like we always do for the other games.

"Obviously we are playing a team that is at the bottom, so it's going to be difficult. I think the way they are playing they are going through a rough patch at the moment, so it's just a matter of just winning one game that will help turn the corner you know. It's going to be difficult playing against them.

He concluded that the visiting side could be dangerous because they have everything to gain.

"Well I wouldn't say it's the right time [to play them] because I mean you don't know what philosophy or mentality the new coach is going to use to approach the game.

"So for me, the way I see it, it's dangerous to play them now because honestly you don't know what kind of a team is going to come you see.

"So that's why I think every game is important now to them, every point counts. That means it's going to be very, very difficult. I mean at this point in time you know they are fighting for their lives. Every game it's a cup final for them.

"The second round I feel every team comes with a different mentality. The teams are calculating points at this time of the season, so it's very dangerous to play against any team you know.

"I mean people can see where the log is. This is the time of the season where I feel teams are more realistic when it comes to where they want to end up. So I mean people want to pick up as much points as they can at this time of the season. They will throw everything at us. They want to get out of where they are."

Kick-off is 20:00.
