Cape Town - Newly-signed Cape Town City FC midfielder Thato Mokeke says he is happy to be back home and is looking to seal a starting berth in Eric Tinkler's outfit.
The 26-year-old failed to establish himself as a regular at former teams Ajax Cape Town and SuperSport United, but Mokeke believes his move to the newly-formed Premiership franchise offers him an opportunity to stake a claim for a regular starting berth.
"I'm just happy to be back in Cape Town again. My objective is to command a regular spot in the City starting eleven," he told KickOff.
"I've also got aspirations to represent my country as well. The last time I received a call-up was in 2012.
"Its four years now that I haven't been involved with the national team but that's because I haven't been playing regularly for my club. That's why I've decided to make the switch in order to play regular football."
The defensive midfielder acknowledged that he won't just walk into Tinkler's starting eleven as he will have to compete with the likes of Lebogang Manyama, Roland Putsche and Mpho Matsi.
"That said, I'm aware that I cannot just walk into the team - I have to prove myself but I'm willing to work hard," he added.
