Mokate: Maritzburg played like soldiers

Cape Town - Maritzburg United forward Mohau Mokate believes Saturday's 2-1 Absa Premiership victory over Black Leopards was the boost of confidence the club needs to stave off relegation.

Mokate proved to be the hero as his opening goal helped the Team of Choice to go on to record a 2-1 win over Lidoda Duvha in Thohoyandou.

The result handed United a massive boost as they are now one point behind 15th-placed Chippa United and three behind Leopards and Free State Stars tied in 14th.

Speaking to his team's official website, Mokate said: "The conditions in Venda is very difficult.

"It took character to come away from there with the victory.

"We played as soldiers because we knew what to expect from them.

"This win will build the confidence in the team ahead of the SuperSport game."

United are next in action in the league against SuperSport this Saturday on home soil before a potential relegation-decider against Baroka on 11 May.

Kick-off is at 15:00.
