Cape Town - Orlando Pirates midfielder Linda Mntambo says he informed coach Milutin Sredojevic and his technical team that he prefers playing in the number 10 role as he can score goals.
Mntambo made his name for Jomo Cosmos and Chippa United as a 10, however, he has often been used in a deeper position by Pirates which perhaps lessens his effectiveness.
Nonetheless, the 30-year-old says he would prefer playing in advanced position though he will do a job anywhere on the pitch if it helps the team.
Speaking to reporters, he said: "I'm an attacking midfielder. At Chippa and even at Cosmos I used to play closer to goal, more as a number 10 and I scored more goals and goals win you games.
"In the team I've been deployed as a number eight or sometimes as a number six, but I guess as a player when given a chance to be on the field you've gotta take, unlike sitting on the bench.
"At the beginning of the season I had a talk with the coaches and they asked which position are you comfortable playing in and I said I prefer playing in front of goal, I like scoring goals and I like celebrating.
"I'll take every opportunity that comes my way, even if I'm told to play at right back I'll also do my best in that position."
Pirates are back in action on Saturday in the CAF Champions League when they face Zambia's Green Eagles in a first leg preliminary round tie in Lusaka.
