The brother of Nkanyiso Mngwengwe has revealed further details regarding the death of the former Golden Arrows defender.

On Monday Abafana Bes'thende shocked the football fraternity with news announcing the death of their 30-year-old former captain.

In an interview with KickOff, Mngwengwe's brother said they rushed him to hospital, but he was "dead on arrival".

"Ubhuti usishiyile (my brother has passed on)," Mphathi Mngwengwe said.

"It's hard, my brother. He woke up this morning and his body started to shake. He was shaking in his room. His wife woke us up around 02:00 and we tried to give him first aid.

"We then took him to hospital in Maritzburg where the doctors told us he was already gone and had heart failure. He was confirmed dead on arrival."

Meanwhile, Arrows head coach Steve Komphela spoke to Sport24, revealing that Mngwengwe was a "humble" individual and knew exactly what he wanted out of life.

"Sgora", as Mngwengwe was affectionately known to his peers, joined Arrows in 2013 from amateur side Umngeni City FC.

Tributes immediately started to stream for the father-of-two in from various Premier Soccer League players and clubs.
