Mngonyama: Maritzburg players happy under Davids

Cape Town - Maritzburg United defender Kwanda Mngonyama has praised the man-management skills of caretaker boss Fadlu Davids.

Davids is in his second stint as stand-in coach this season following the departures of Ernst Middendorp and Roger De Sa.

On each occasion the players have responded well to the former Team of Choice striker, and with two wins in their last three games they are seventh on the table and on track for a top eight finish.

And it would seem Davids has been able to create a good chemistry between himself and the squad. "Coach Fadlu understands us very well and we understand him too, as players, as brothers and as sons," Mngonyama told the club's website.

"He manages us very well, keeps us awake and has instilled an understanding that we are here to work, and work hard," he added.

Mngonyama was on target in a 3-1 home win over Baroka FC last weekend, a second consecutive victory at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

And the versatile defender is confident of a bringing more joy to home fans in the final three matches in the KZN capital this season against Cape Town City, Platinum Stars and Bloemfontein Celtic.

"Playing at home motivates us a lot as players because of the support and love the fans give us. We are excited with the home results of late because we were able to give back to our fans," said the under-23 international.

"I am confident that we can stretch it (the winning run) further. I trust my team mates on that one. We have young players who are hungry to do well, guided by senior players who are equally committed. We work as a unit and fight for each other."

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
