Cape Town - Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Humphrey Mlwane believes Edward Manqele should be playing as the club's specialist number 10 and he should be aiming to be the Khama Billiat of Chiefs.
Mlwane is of the opinion that if Manqele is used in the playmaker role he can be an enormous asset to Chiefs and be a great partner to Camaldine Abraw.
Amakhosi coach Steve Khomphela used Abraw and Manqele a lot together at the beginning of the season but has since opted to try out different strike partnerships with the aim of finding his perfect match.
"Manqele is still an important player to the team." Mlwane told Goal website.
"If you remember he had a good partnership going with Abraw when he joined, so I don't know what happened since.
"They are not together anymore because the coach is the one who is working with them regularly."
Mlwane says that Chiefs are desparate for an attacking player who can provide assists for Abraw, similar to what Khama Billiat is doing so effectively for Mamelodi Sundowns.
"I think just now they need someone who can play off Abraw, who has got confidence to take on players.
"I think he can be a good number 10 because he also has the strengths of William Twala who can take on players if he can play there next to him.
"I personally think if he can adapt and play like Billiat, he will be a good partner for Abraw because that man is dangerous. He can be an asset to the team if he does what Billiat does at Sundowns."
Chiefs take on Maritzburg United at the FNB Stadium on Saturday and it remains to be seen if Khomphela gives Manqele a crack at the number 10 position.
