Cape Town - Club captain Thami Mkhize wins big at the Cape Town City end of season awards after leading the Cape side to yet another successful league campaign.
The 30-year-old scooped up the Player of the Season and Player's Player of the Season awards at the club's awards gala on Monday, after the Citizens finished in fourth position in the league and lifted the MTN8 trophy.
"I have learned that to be trusted with the captaincy comes with responsibility," an emotional Mkhize said. "Also I'm grateful and have to give thanks to my fellow team-mates. "I'd also like to say thank you to our supporters who even when we're not doing well, they always have been with us."
Winger Gift Links was named as the Most Improved Player of the Season for his outstanding performances in his first season at the club, with the 20-year-old also nominated for the Absa Premiership Young Player of the Season.
City bagged six nominations for the Absa Premiership end of season awards with head coach Benni McCarthy nominated as Coach of the Season. Peter Leeuwenburgh was nominated for the Goalkeeper of the Season as well as for the MTN8 Last Man Standing, alongside midfielder Thabo Nodada. Mkhize received a nomination for Defender of the Season.
