Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp says he won't keep out-of-favour central defender Lorenzo Gordinho at the club against his wishes.
Gordinho has six months left on his contract, making him available on a free transfer this window.
Since returning from a loan spell at Bloemfontein Celtic in January last year, the 25-year-old has made just eight appearances for Chiefs.
The Benoni-born centre-back has been linked with a return to Orlando Pirates where he spent his academy years and Middendorp admitted that it might be a time for Gordinho to make a decision on his future if he wants regular first-team football as he now sits behind Daniel Cardoso, Erick Mathoho and Siyabonga Ngezana in the pecking order.
"For a number of players, it’s a bit of a difficult situation, and Lorenzo included," Middendorp told KickOff.
"We had quite a functional centre-back duo with players like Daniel Cardoso and Erick Mathoho, and of course a very qualified option in Siyabonga Ngezana, who was part of the first-eleven most of the time in the last year.
"And there's always a bit of a ranking inside three or four first options, and for different reasons, he (Gordinho) falls a little bit behind.
"But it's always a decision that a player must look into – can he be successful? Is he able to improve in certain directions – yes or no? And it’s not only the technical team (that should answer).
"He's a very good, qualified player for the PSL level, and unfortunately other players have been getting the advantage to start the season performing well, which is the handicap of other players being on the second line at the moment."
