Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs head coach Ernst Middendorp declared himself "very happy" after seeing his side claim all three points with a last-gasp goal against Golden Arrows on Saturday.

The match appeared to be heading for a goalless draw but with time running out, Amakhosi eventually got the breakthrough they were looking for as Lebogang Manyama popped up with the match-winner at the death.

The result means the table-topping Chiefs are now 10 points clear of second-placed Sundowns, with third-placed SuperSport are a further point behind in the Premiership standings.

And Middendorp had words of praise for the performance of Arrows, while also highlighting that his side could expect more of the same from opposing teams in the future.

Speaking to SuperSport TV after the match, Middendorp said: "No, you know first of all compliment to Golden Arrows, an unbelievable defensive concept in terms of keeping us not in the most dangerous area.

"We knocked, knocked and knocked until the end, we never stopped. Good, it was difficult for us but I said it before last week after the Black Leopards game, we will see it more often in the end.

"Teams are working, top eight, not to relegate, come close, defensive concepts coming in more and more, then you have to provide.

"I'm very happy for the team, for the players, that we have the three points."

When asked what kind of message he had given his team at half-time, with the scores locked at 0-0, Middendorp added: "It's okay, I said compliment, very well structured.

"One aspect of our team talk the entire week, was talking about this.

"To be patient, sometimes take a vertical pass back, build up, if the left is closed, try to go deep on the right side.

"This is where we have to do better in the future, no doubt.

"Fantastic support, the noise was great scoring the goal in the last second."
