Middendorp: Points are a by-product of performances

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs head coach Ernst Middendorp insists he doesn't focus on the Absa Premiership standings but rather on the individual games as they come.

The German tactician has enjoyed a stellar league campaign thus far as Amakhosi sit nine points clear of the rest at the top of the table after 17 games.

However, the Chiefs boss has made it clear that he is much more interested in good performances than counting his team's points at the end of the day.

To emphasise his point Middendorp stated that the recent defeat to SuperSport United was in fact their best display so far this year, despite beating Highlands Park and Cape Town City 3-0 thereafter.

"I've said it before that I'm not counting the points," said Middendorp, as quoted by TimesLive.

"The focus is on the game just past and the game immediately ahead of us. The results are a sign of our confidence. It's all about doing the basics.

"Actually‚ this might surprise you but I think our best game of the three since the new year was the loss to SuperSport. It is not always the result that tells us what happens on the field."

The Glamour Boys will travel to Black Leopards on Saturday for their next Absa Premiership encounter.

Kick-off is at 15:30.
