Middendorp in daily contact with Chiefs scouting department

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp says he has been in contact with the club's scouting department on a daily basis, but did not confirm whether he had any January targets in mind.

Middendorp has been at the Chiefs helm since December 7, with the German tactician announced as the club's new head coach just hours after the departure of Italian Giovanni Solinas.

He has now had almost a full month to assess the players currently at his disposal, but Middendorp is keeping his cards close to his chest regarding potential transfer targets.

When asked if he would be looking to strengthen his squad in January, Middendorp was only willing to reveal that he has been in regular contact with the club's recruitment team.

"Ja, no, I'm used to saying it, there is always something when you assess your own options that you have," Middendorp was quoted as saying by TimesLIVE website.

"And of course, what is the market really offering you? That's the next question and both have to be done with the knowledge that we have this recruiting and scouting department, and people here inside the club doing this.

"And good - we talk every day."

Amakhosi have already been boosted by the return of defender Lorenzo Gordinho, who spent the last 12 months on loan at Bloemfontein Celtic.

Meanwhile, Chiefs welcome Mamelodi Sundowns FNB Stadium on Saturday as the Absa Premiershio resumes.

Kick-off is at 15:30.
