Cape Town - Following their 1-0 win over Ajax Cape Town on Wednesday night, Maritzburg United coach Ernst Middendorp believes his side will survive relegation.
The Team of Choice climbed off the foot of the Premiership table for the first time since September, Thamsanqa Mkhize grabbing a late winner with his curling free-kick just moments before the final whistle at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
Middendorp's men of are now one point behind Jomo Cosmos, who are just above the drop zone following their 1-0 loss to Golden Arrows, ahead of their final game of the season.
"We have to start preparing now, now, now. We have to keep focused. We have to keep them all under control," Middendorp said.
"They are young human beings. Now is not the time for celebration. We have to be very, very clear and structured to do the job against Jomo [Cosmos] on 21 May.
"I am actually very, very confident with the energy and the desire I feel in the team, I am very confident we will make it."
The German coach also feels his team deserved the victory against the Urban Warriors, adding: "We had some chances here and there, a little bit, which were not really taken.
"I think it was a fantastic free-kick in the end. We wanted to win, I am not looking for goal difference or whatever. We wanted to win. We wanted to keep it solid, which was our very clear understanding, and I think in my opinion it was fully deserved."
