Cape Town - Maritzburg United coach Ernst Middendorp believes his team can avoid the relegation chop at the expense of fellow tail-enders University of Pretoria and Jomo Cosmos.
The bottom placed United have done well in recent games to close the gap with the other struggling teams from seven, to just one point.
With 16 points from 22 games, United are a point behind AmaTuks in second last place and four behind 14th placed Cosmos while also having a game in hand.
"The league is absolutely something we should never lose our focus on," Middendorp told the club's website.
"I know this game is pivotal and crucial against Tuks, but as I've always said, I believe it will go to the last two or three games to make the final decision and come out of this position we are in at the moment.
"We are in a league of three teams, Tuks, Jomo and us. We hope we can win this league at the end of the season on the 21st of May."
United will be back in action against Mpumalanga Black Aces in the Nedbank Cup of Saturday and will resume their fight for survival against AmaTuks on April 9.
