Middendorp assessing options to replace Akpeyi, Mathoho

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs head coach Ernst Middendorp is using the current international break to work on his options to replace Daniel Akpeyi and Erick Mathoho for Amakhosi's next game.

The Soweto giants take on Martizburg United in the semi-finals of the Telkom Knockout in Nelspruit on 24 November.

Chiefs will be without goalkeeper Akpeyi and defender Mathoho as both players are currently serving a suspension.

Amakhosi mentor Middendorp also mentioned that South Africa under-23 defender Siyabonga Ngezana could have been an option if he was available.

Middendorp said as quoted by KickOff: "It's something we know - the next game against Maritzburg on the 24th of November, Daniel Akpeyi can't play, so we have to go very clearly into it.

"We don't have Erick Mathoho available, so we have now time to look into it.

"The first choice could have been Siyabonga Ngezana - unfortunately, he’s sitting somewhere in Egypt to do duties and service [with the under-23 national team].

"That's definitely something after some days rest that we'll go into before playing Maritzburg, looking into what their strong side is in terms of the setup and elements, then we'll try to prepare ourselves to be successful in that game."
