Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs head coach Ernst Middendorp said he was not surprised by the performance of Njabulo Blom in the top of the table clash against Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday.
The 19-year-old Blom was superb in Amakhosi's defence and snuffed out plenty of Sundowns attacks, especially in the second half as Chiefs won 2-0 at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
Middendorp made mention that the young defender has already played on the world stage as he represented South Africa at the U17 World Cup in Poland.
The Chiefs mentor said in quotes on the club's website: "He was not going to be on the field if I was not 100% convinced that he is prepared to do the job.
"He is adaptable and he did a fantastic job for us. He played in the World Cup in Poland against Argentina.
"He was played in different positions. I see his development at training."
Middendorp also said he would not be afraid to throw other young players into the deep end.
"We are still waiting for Nkosingiphile Ngcobo who's recovering and Happy Mashiane is progressing well too," Middendorp said.
"These youngsters are important in our planning."
