Cape Town - Orlando Pirates coach Milutin Sredojevic has downplayed suggestions that he could turn out to be as successful as Manchester United's legendary manager Alex Ferguson.

Ferguson won 13 Premier League crowns during his 27-year stay with the English giants, as well as virtually every other honour available in the highest echelons of European football.

With Sredojevic implementing a clear identity with the Sea Robbers and bringing virtually immediate success albeit without yet winning a trophy, there have been suggestions made that he one day could emulate the great Scotsman.

Nonetheless, 'Micho' refused to be compared against the retired 76-year-old, saying to the TimesLIVE website: "This great club, since 1937, and this Pirates badge is something that has been there, will be with me and will be much more after me.

"I have been fortunate, blessed and privileged to be in this position [as coach], but I don't want to think anything beyond the next match and the bill will come at the end.

"We shall then see how far we have reached, but to answer your question, it is not fair to talk about this, it's very, very far from that aspect."

However, he does liken his assistant coach Rulani Mokwena to the United legend as he believes his that his right-hand man will be at the Sea Robbers for many years.

“It is not fair to talk about this because it is very‚ very far‚" he said.

“But besides me there is a person (Mokwena) that I believe one day‚ when like in the relay in athletics‚ I will give the baton to and he will go all the way.

“He (Mokwena) will last as long as Alex Ferguson (at Man United).”

Pirates are next in action on Saturday when they face AmaZulu in a Telkom Knockout quarter-final at the Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban.
