Mexican Diego Franco on Wits radar

Cape Town - Bidvest Wits are reportedly targeting the signature of Mexican midfielder Diego Franco who plays his football for University of Pretoria in the NFD.

Franco joined AmaTuks at the start of 2018/19 along with his fellow countryman and forward Lugiani Gallardo.

Both North Americans were linked with Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns in 2018, however, no move materialised at that time.

In addition, Franco is said to have impressed Pirates' technical team after a friendly match against Tuks last year.

With that said, it appears the Clever Boys are seriously eyeing his services as they look to bolster their attacking options for the 2019/20 campaign.

A source told Kickoff: "Wits have come to watch the player several times and they have been impressed.

"He is on top of the list of players discussed with the possibility to sign next season."

Franco has made seven league appearances for his current side while scoring three goals along the way as well.

It seems the Students are eager to strengthen the squad with certain key players set to be lost at the end of the season. Goalkeeper Darren Keet is expected to be one of those departing after revealing he did not want to extend his deal with the club.
