Mere expects Thibedi to shine for Chiefs

Vuyo Mere has hailed the qualities of Given Thibedi who he believes can be a star in the Absa Premiership.

The 22-year-old Kaizer Chiefs midfielder is currently on loan with Swallows FC in the GladAfrica Championship, playing alongside the veteran former Mamelodi Sundowns and Platinum Stars right-back.

Having spent over a decade in the top-flight of South African football, Mere, who has been keeping a close eye on Thibedi, says not only is he talented but he has a football brain.

Mere told KickOff: "The boy is a workaholic, comfortable on the ball and level-headed.

"The boy can play in the top-flight tomorrow because he has what it takes. He is just way ahead of his peers when it comes to football brains.

"He has this arrogance when he is on the field that makes him fear nobody and I like that a lot about him."

Thibedi is expected to return to Chiefs when his loan deal expires at the end of the season, with Mere adding: "He can do well at Chiefs but he needs to be introduced rightfully and nurtured because he is a young fellow and he is still learning. But for me I will put him in my team any day."
