Menzo laments poor pitch conditions

Cape Town - Despite their impressive 1-0 win over the struggling Chippa United at the Buffalo City Stadium on Saturday, Ajax Cape Town head coach Stanley Menzo has insisted that it was not an easy game to play considering the bumpy pitch conditions they have endured.

The Urban Warriors piled more miseries on the wounded Chilli Boys and moved into a top half position courtesy of Thabo Mosadi’s solitary strike at the closing stages of the game.

The 53-year-old mentor expressed his delight at which his troops performed, citing that they were dominant throughout the game.

“It was not an easy game to play because of the pitch we were playing on," Menzo bemoaned.

“We had some pretty moments throughout the game and we dominated. We created plenty of chances as well, so the boys really deserved to win.”

A win for Ajax moved them into the eighth spot on the table, and Menzo believes that he has done his part to help the team recover from their poor start to the 2016/17 Absa Premiership campaign.

“We are now in the top eight and the boys will cement their place," he said.

“It’s not up to me anymore but it is within their hands to do that. They promised me that they will do their best to win all the remaining four games, starting with the one against Chippa United.”

Ajax will host Bloemfontein Celtic in the next league fixture at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday evening.

Kick off is at 20:15.
