Menzo: Ajax players still on my side

Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town coach Stanley Menzo believes he has the full backing of his players and says he is ready to battle on after failing to win in the last seven matches.

The Urban Warriors lost 2-1 away to Maritzburg United on Saturday night to extend their winless run of form in 2017 to seven league matches, leaving them just two points above the relegation zone.

When it was asked of him if he may be losing the full support and belief of his players, Menzo said he is confident that this is not the case.

"What do you mean are they are still on my side? You saw the whole game so didn't they respond, yes or no? I think they did respond. For me they didn't play badly but they didn't play well either," the Dutchman told journalists after the game.

While admitting his team were not at their best, Menzo says he still felt they deserved more from the match at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

"If you look at this game I think we were the better team, we had the better chances only we had to score the goals and don't concede chances and goals like that.

"I'm worried yes but I'm fighting and I'm a fighter and I'll keep on fighting."

Ajax next face relegation-threatened Highlands Park at home, followed by away matches against Golden Arrows and Mamelodi Sundowns.
