Memela: The best is yet to come

Johannesburg - Orlando Pirates midfielder Luvuyo Memela admits that he did not expect to walk straight into the Buccaneers starting line-up due to the quality of the players at the club.

The midfielder joined the Sowetan giants in July last year.

Memela fought a huge battle to earn his place in the Pirates first team and has featured in the club’s previous four games.

The Cape Town born stared in the Sea Robbers 5-0 win over Jomo Cosmos at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday which won him the Man of the Match accolade.

The former Cape Town All Stars winger says leaving his family in the Mother City to seek greener pastures in Johannesburg was a tough decision.

“For me it was all about patience and hard work to get where I am today,” said Memela.

“Moving from Cape Town to Johannesburg, leaving my family behind was a big step.

“But I was welcomed well at Pirates and deep down I always knew that it’ll take time for me to get some game time.

“Because there is too much quality in the team but for me to do is to lift my head up high and work hard.

“And I can promise you that the best is yet to come from my side.”
